JWV Hanukkah in D.C.
On the first night of Chanukah, December 25, 2024, members of the Jewish War Veterans (JWV) Department of Maryland, D.C., & Israel (MDI) joined National Executive Director Ken Greenberg at the National Menorah Lighting ceremony. The event, held at The Ellipse near the White House, brought together members of the Jewish community, government officials, and military personnel to celebrate the Festival of Lights.
JWV members Will Schoenfeld, Dan Berkovitz, and Chuck Miller played an active role, distributing over 400 brochures for the National Museum of American Jewish Military History to attendees. Scott Schlesinger, Anne Schlesinger, and Ben Buring also represented JWV, with all members enjoying reserved seating near the Armed Forces personnel.
The evening featured a performance by the popular band 8th Day, who energized the crowd with their music. Among the dignitaries present were Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, the highest-ranking cabinet member in attendance, and Ambassador Deborah Lipstadt. She was seated alongside Ambassador Stuart Eizenstat, a notable moment for attendees familiar with his diplomatic contributions and literary work.
The event was organized by the American Friends of Lubavitch (Chabad), who received heartfelt thanks for hosting this remarkable celebration of Chanukah in the nation's capital.
